About The Customer
Vidsy is a London-based company that brings together thousands of young creatives to develop mobile-first video campaigns for brands such as Unilever and L’Oréal. Brands issue Vidsy with creative briefs for video campaigns, and Vidsy shares these briefs with registered members who then send in their video content. Vidsy takes the best of these videos and shares them with its clients for distribution on to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. The company was born in the AWS Cloud and has a community of 3,000 young creatives, many of whom are university students or have recently finished their courses.
The Challenge
Vidsy, a London-based company that helps brands develop mobile-first video campaigns, was facing challenges with Docker Cloud. The company had moved all its applications into Docker containers running on Amazon EC2 instances and automated the administration of the containers using Docker Cloud. However, they regularly had to deal with Docker Cloud software bugs and dedicate precious engineering resources to fixing the issues. Furthermore, Docker Cloud’s cluster management feature was going end-of-life and Vidsy needed an alternative.
The Solution
Vidsy decided to migrate to Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) to manage its containerized applications. The migration from Docker Cloud to Amazon ECS was completed in just 10 days. The company did all the migration work internally. The ease of migration was a key factor in choosing Amazon ECS. After the migration, Vidsy saw a reduction in costs and an improvement in the reliability of orchestrating containerized applications.
Operational Impact
  • Vidsy migrated to Amazon ECS in just 10 days, which was a quick and smooth transition.
  • The performance of Amazon ECS is more reliable than Docker Cloud, which has freed up time for the Vidsy team to focus on developing new services.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced costs by 60%
  • Improved reliability for orchestrating containerized applications
