About The Customer
Roberts Precision Machine is a machine shop based in Monroe, Washington. The company has been a user of the E2 machine shop software platform for more than 10 years. The E2 platform has helped the company streamline its processes, eliminate redundant tasks, and become more efficient and profitable. The leadership team at Roberts Precision Machine decided to pursue ISO certification to stay ahead of the competition. They believed that ISO certification would give them the credibility to be even more successful in the competitive medical device manufacturing market.
The Challenge
Roberts Precision Machine, a machine shop in Monroe, Washington, decided to pursue ISO certification to gain credibility and be more successful in the competitive medical device manufacturing market. The company had been using the E2 machine shop software platform for over a decade, which had helped them streamline processes, eliminate redundant tasks, and increase efficiency and profitability. However, the challenge lay in meeting the stringent ISO requirements, particularly in terms of documentation. The company needed to have their processes documented and a written quality assurance process in place to be certified.
The Solution
To meet the ISO certification requirements, Roberts Precision Machine decided to implement the Rapid Documentation System, an E2 module that helps create quality documentation. The Rapid Documentation System uses the data that already exists in the E2 manufacturing software to generate the documentation, which is one of the biggest obstacles to getting certified. The company also enlisted the help of Glenn Sherman, one of Shoptech Software’s in-house ISO experts. Glenn visited the machine shop twice, first for a consultation and analysis of their current situation, and second to conduct a practice audit. This helped the business anticipate potential issues that could arise during the official ISO audit. When the official ISO audit arrived, the shop was fully prepared with documentation and processes that met ISO’s standards.
Operational Impact
  • The entire certification process took approximately six months, far less time than is usually required.
  • Roberts Precision Machine was fully prepared with documentation and processes that met ISO’s standards during the official ISO audit.
  • The company was able to resolve a few minor issues that arose during the audit quickly with the help of Glenn and Shoptech.
