About The Customer
Unitel is Angola’s market-leading mobile telecoms provider, holding a 70% share of the Angolan market. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Luanda, the company plans to extend coverage across the entire country by 2022 with a roll-out of 4G to Angola’s major cities. Unitel holds a large amount of personal and financial data of the citizens of Angola, making it a critical part of the nation's infrastructure.
The Challenge
Unitel, Angola’s leading mobile telecoms provider, faced the challenge of protecting critical national infrastructure against continuous cyber-attacks. The company holds a significant amount of personal and financial data of Angolan citizens, making it a prime target for cyber threats. A disruption or breach of Unitel's systems could cause a major disruption to the Angolan economy. The company also needed to simplify its security management, as managing multiple security solutions from different vendors was proving to be complex and inefficient.
The Solution
Unitel adopted a unified approach to security management, built around the consolidated Check Point Infinity Architecture. This fully consolidated cybersecurity architecture provides unprecedented protection against sophisticated and targeted Gen V mega cyber-attacks. It is designed to resolve the complexities of growing connectivity and inefficient security, working across all networks, endpoint, cloud, and mobile. Unitel also deployed Check Point Next Generation Threat Prevention augmented with SandBlast Threat Emulation (sandboxing) and IPS (Intrusion Prevention System). Remote users are seamlessly connected over Check Point Virtual Private Networks (VPN), providing them with seamless and secure access to the corporate networks.
Operational Impact
  • With the implementation of Check Point Infinity, Unitel managed to consolidate its entire infrastructure under one centralized security management platform. This has not only simplified the management of security but also provided total visibility over the infrastructure. The company is now able to better manage remote users and create granular security rules for different user groups. The unified threat management has proven to be more cost-effective, easier to manage, and more secure. Upgrades have become simpler and more consistent, ensuring stability across the system. The support from Check Point has also been commendable, providing peace of mind and assurance for future security.
