UBS Arena
About The Customer
UBS Arena is a state-of-the-art venue designed for music and built for hockey. Opening its doors for the first time in November 2021, the $1.1 billion, 18,000-seat arena is the new home of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders. The arena is expected to host about 150 events annually, offering clear sightlines and premier acoustics from every seat. It features high-end VIP suites and clubs, outdoor terraces, eight ice-view bars, and a high-resolution scoreboard. UBS Arena aims to be one of the nation’s most prestigious and inviting entertainment venues. It is also the first venue of its kind in New York to be eligible for LEED v4 Building Design + Construction certification, with a target date of 2024 to achieve carbon-neutral operations.
The Challenge
UBS Arena, a newly built 18,000-seat venue in New York, was designed to host about 150 events annually, with a focus on providing a thrilling yet safe experience for fans. The arena needed a robust cabling and connectivity solution to support its sophisticated sound systems, a 5G network, a distributed antenna system (DAS), New York’s largest scoreboard, and two levels of high-resolution LED ribbon boards. The venue also required a network infrastructure that could support public health and safety measures, such as automated ventilation systems, grab-and-go mobile ordering, and contactless purchases. The wireless network had to support the seamless connection of tens of thousands of devices in the venue’s completely cashless environment. Additionally, smart restroom technology needed to connect to the network to track and report on inventory levels and cleaning needs.
The Solution
To meet these challenges, UBS Arena relied on Belden cabling and connectivity solutions. Digital Electricity™ Cables were used to support the DAS that connect base transceiver station head-end equipment to the RFs/remote radio units placed around the venue. The DAS conditions, filters, and combines 5G signals from wireless carriers to improve indoor wireless coverage. The arena’s 5G network supercharges the fan experience, allowing them to connect to the UBS Arena app to access digital tickets, order food, and participate in team trivia and other gamification. FiberExpress fiber and REVConnect® 10GXW Category 6A Cabling were also used to provide infrastructure for reliable Wi-Fi and mobile coverage. REVConnect Category 6A Plugs were used to connect every lighting fixture, display, and scoreboard to the network for remote monitoring, management, and control. Belden’s REVConnect Connectivity solutions saved valuable installation time while reducing rework and maintaining social distancing on the jobsite.

Intelligent Building Automation System and Energy Saving Solution
One of the most difficult problems facing the world is conserving energy in buildings. However, it is not easy to have a cost-effective solution to reduce energy usage in a building. One solution for saving energy is to implement an intelligent building automation system (BAS) which can be controlled according to its schedule. In Indonesia a large university with a five floor building and 22 classrooms wanted to save the amount of energy being used.
