Founded in 2017 by Jessica Mason, the company started with a simple Shopify website and three colors of linen bedding and pillowcases. The brand's lived-in, English countryside aesthetic has attracted big-name retailers on both sides of the Atlantic. Despite its rapid growth and success, the company faced operational challenges as it scaled, particularly in managing orders from multiple channels and tracking numerous spreadsheets. The company's team has grown from two to 25 people, and it continues to expand its operations and product range.
The Challenge
Piglet in Bed, a UK-based online bedding business, was facing operational challenges due to its rapid growth. Launched in 2017 with a simple Shopify website and a limited product range, the company quickly gained traction, becoming the third fastest-growing homeware retailer in the UK. The brand's success attracted big-name retailers and investors, leading to an upgrade in its website, marketing, and operations. However, as orders started flowing in from both the UK and the USA, the company's existing solution was causing operational headaches. The team was losing time tracking numerous spreadsheets, and CFO Axel Stelk recognized that their increasingly complex processes needed a stronger support system. Despite interviewing several legacy ERP providers, they were unable to find a satisfactory solution.
The Solution
Piglet in Bed found its solution in Brightpearl's retail operating system (ROS), which they discovered through a marketing newsletter. The company set ambitious goals to launch with the system in time for Black Friday, and with the guidance of Brightpearl’s expert implementation consultants, they were up and running in less than 90 days. Brightpearl's system offered a host of Plug & Play integrations, swiftly connecting to Piglet in Bed’s Shopify Plus website, its accounting software, third-party warehouse system, and CRM. It also extended to the brand’s online retail apps such as John Lewis and Nordstrom. Brightpearl’s powerful Automation Engine automated and streamlined time-intensive tasks in ordering, inventory, warehouse, shipping, and fulfillment, transforming the company's operations. With Brightpearl in place as its central source of truth, the Piglet in Bed team gained 360-degree visibility across its entire business, receiving real-time performance updates and advanced reporting functionality.
