About The Customer
Tarleton State University is an institution that provides quality programs of undergraduate, graduate, and non-traditional education. The university supports a student body of more than 9,000 and is spread over two main campuses at Stephenville and Central Texas. The university prides itself on cutting-edge information management and was looking for a solution to improve their reporting system. The university's previous reporting system had serious drawbacks, including tying up precious resources and causing a productivity drain on the staff.
The Challenge
Tarleton State University was facing challenges with their previous reporting system. The system was inefficient, requiring the same reports and database queries to be run repeatedly, tying up valuable resources. The problem was further compounded by the time-consuming process of formatting reports in Excel. Some reports, such as semester reports, took up to two weeks to produce, while others, like enrollment, had to be run each day, further burdening the staff. The university was in need of a more comprehensive solution to their reporting needs.
The Solution
Tarleton State University decided to implement WebFOCUS, a business intelligence platform by Information Builders. The university purchased WebFOCUS in March 2006 as part of an Education Bundle that is tailored to the SunGard Higher Education Banner ERP system. The software was installed and learned easily and straightforwardly, with some training from Information Builders’ Education department. By the end of 2006, the system was up and running, with several reports available online through Texan Facts, the university’s primary information portal. WebFOCUS integrates with Microsoft Active Directory so the faculty and staff can use their existing login information to access the reporting system.
