About The Customer

Talking Medicines is a data tech company that is changing the way the world markets drugs through data science. They are the world’s first company dedicated to uncovering the true patient voice from social media. Their aim is to be the gold standard for real-world patient intelligence. Their SaaS solution, PatientMetRx®, powered by artificial intelligence, turns unstructured patient feedback from social media into actionable insights. This helps drug marketers become more efficient and effective at reaching patients with impactful campaigns, delivering better health outcomes for all.

The Challenge

Talking Medicines, a data tech company, was concerned about the potential negative environmental impact they might inadvertently create as they scale. They wanted to be environmentally responsible and align with their net zero and ESG goals. They also aimed to attract employees who share their culture and values and reassure stakeholders who are increasingly concerned about carbon footprints. The challenge was to measure their greenhouse gas responsibility and the impact of their reduction interventions. They needed a way to independently assess their carbon footprint and align their operations with their sustainability goals.

The Solution

Talking Medicines partnered with Greenly to conduct an annual carbon assessment and audit-grade reporting. Greenly was chosen for its simplicity of onboarding, wealth of training and support materials, friendly and efficient account management, and scientific & transparent approach to assessing carbon footprint, which is accredited by the ADEME (Agence pour la Transition Écologique). Their measurement methodology covers scope 1,2,3 analysis & benchmarks. The carbon footprint report took into account direct and energy emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by service providers and services used by the company (Scope 3). The next steps for Talking Medicines include measuring and reducing emissions, supporting like-minded businesses by sharing their learnings, and contributing to GHG reduction/sequestration projects both in Scotland and in the US.

Operational Impact
  • The partnership with Greenly has allowed Talking Medicines to independently measure their greenhouse gas responsibility and the impact of their reduction interventions. The carbon assessment has provided them with a clear understanding of their environmental impact, enabling them to align their operations with their sustainability goals. The results have also reassured stakeholders about their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint. The company is now in a position to share their experience with the wider community and attract employees who share their culture and values. They are also planning to contribute to GHG reduction/sequestration projects in Scotland and the US, further demonstrating their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Quantitative Benefit
  • Talking Medicines had a carbon footprint of only 55t CO2e in 2021.

  • This places Talking Medicines in the top 5 percentile in terms of low impact of all Greenly companies.

  • Their carbon footprint is equivalent to 31 Paris-New York round trips, the annual emissions of 5.6 French people, and the amount of CO2 sequestered annually by 5 hectares of forest.
