About The Customer
PEZ Candy Inc. is an international manufacturer of brick candies. The company was founded in 1927 in Vienna, Austria and remains a family-owned business over 90 years later. Their North America location in Orange, Connecticut handles all domestic business and typically produces approximately 4.5 million pounds of candy each year. The North American facility employs around 175 people. Since 2005, PEZ has relied on Aptean Ross ERP to monitor and manage their North American manufacturing processes and has remained active in adopting new Ross technologies to maintain their competitive edge in the marketplace.
The Challenge
PEZ Candy Inc., an international manufacturer of brick candies, was facing challenges with their outdated technology which was impacting productivity. They were unable to work on multiple tasks at once within their distribution center. The company was in need of an upgrade to their mobile devices whose operating system was no longer supported by the provider. The purchase of mobile computers was a substantial investment, so the company felt they needed to provide a solution that looked beyond new devices and offered operational improvements that would boost productivity as well.
The Solution
PEZ Candy decided to implement Ross Inventory Manager (RIM) within their facility. RIM was chosen because of the additional flexibility and speed that came with the product. The system not only fit seamlessly into PEZ’s daily operations, but also provided mobile flexibility. The implementation of RIM was a simple process and once installed and configured, the product took off seamlessly. No reconfiguration; no gradual adaptation; no workarounds were needed. RIM was developed to expand on the basic capabilities of data collection, eliminating usability limitations. It simplified the installation process and enabled use of Ross Data Collection on any device of choice so inventory processes could continue on-the-go.
Operational Impact
  • PEZ warehouse employees were able to fulfill orders quicker than ever before.
  • The company was able to run multiple tasks at once, boosting productivity immensely.
  • The system response time significantly decreased, moving much quicker than the old mobile product.
  • The PEZ team now spends less time navigating the system and more time completing their inventory cycle count.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Decreased end-of-year inventory process by two days (20%)
