The company has a strong presence in Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Mexico, and is expanding into Argentina, Russia, and other countries. The company was founded by technically-minded individuals and has a strong focus on systems. As they expand into new markets, they need a tool to help them identify trustworthy and legitimate users and efficiently identify scammers. Currently, 95% of their customers come via their website.
The Challenge
Logitravel, an online travel agency, was facing a significant challenge with fraud as they expanded into new markets. They were vulnerable to various types of fraud, including organized crime fraud rings, friendly fraud in contested ticket sales, and phishing and account takeover. Their existing third-party rules-based fraud solution was unable to keep up with their growing business and evolving markets. After a particularly destructive barrage of fraud, they realized they needed a more robust and scalable solution.
The Solution
Logitravel turned to Sift, a machine learning-based fraud detection solution. They trained the algorithm with historical data and sent labels to teach the machine what good and bad customer behavior looked like. The system now runs quietly and efficiently in the background. Suspicious orders are automatically held for review, with the Sift Console providing a data-rich pop-up of investigation tools for the team. The APIs allow Logitravel to easily take advantage of the machine learning findings, making every reviewed transaction more effective.
