As part of its IT strategy, Denham Capital is in the process of migrating its infrastructure to the cloud over the next two years. The firm's IT team is lean, consisting of only three members, and they are responsible for protecting data and applications in the cloud, gaining visibility into traffic both on premises and in the cloud, and ensuring consistent security everywhere.
The Challenge
Denham Capital, a private equity firm with over $8.5 billion invested in power, oil and gas, and mining industries, faced a significant challenge in ensuring the security of their cloud-based assets. The firm was in the process of migrating its infrastructure to the cloud and needed a solution that would provide the same level of security for their cloud-based assets as their premises-based assets. The unpredictable nature of the energy industry demanded a high level of adaptability and agility. Denham Capital needed a solution that would reduce the high costs of operating physical data centers, increase application performance, and enable rapid and easy deployment and provisioning of new offices or users without compromising performance or security. The firm's lean IT team needed to protect data and applications in the cloud, gain visibility into traffic both on premises and in the cloud, and ensure consistent security everywhere.
The Solution
Denham Capital chose Check Point vSEC for Microsoft Azure as their security solution. Check Point vSEC extends advanced threat prevention security to protect Azure cloud environments from malware and other sophisticated threats. As a Microsoft Azure certified solution, vSEC enables organizations to easily and seamlessly secure their workloads, data, and assets while providing secure connectivity across cloud and on-premises environments. Denham Capital's IT team began migrating resources to their Azure cloud, starting with Active Directory and Exchange services, as well as file services and several applications. Any new services are now hosted in Azure and secured with Check Point vSEC. Over the next few years, backup appliances, storage services, and remaining Check Point premises solutions will be migrated.

  • The implementation of Check Point vSEC for Microsoft Azure has provided Denham Capital with comprehensive security protection, protecting assets in the cloud from attacks while enabling secure connectivity from the enterprise network to Azure. It has increased the firm's network agility by allowing the IT team to spin up or decommission a server or data center with a few clicks. With unified policy management provided by Check Point, cloud resources are now secured the same way as premises-based systems. The firm plans to deploy Check Point R80.10 Security Management to automate policy deployment in Azure, which will save time for the IT team and increase peace of mind.
