About The Customer
The customer is a Fortune 500 company that was dealing with a significant number of phishing and suspicious emails. Their end-users were receiving more than 16,000 phishing emails per month. The company's Security Operations Center (SOC) was required to review each suspicious email report by the end-users, which amounted to nearly 17,000 email reports per month. This high volume of emails was overwhelming the SOC, leading to potential burnout. The company needed a solution that would stop the attacks from reaching the inbox and reduce the load on the SOC.
The Challenge
A Fortune 500 company was inundated with phishing and other suspicious emails, with their end-users receiving more than 16,000 phishing emails per month. In addition to dealing with the actual phishing attacks, this company's Security Operations Center (SOC) was required to review each suspicious email report by the end-users. These were emails that end-users felt could be phishing and thus sent to the SOC for further analysis. On average, the SOC reviewed nearly 17,000 end-user email reports per month, causing them to be overwhelmed and quickly approaching burnout. A change was needed that first stopped the attacks from reaching the inbox while also reducing the overwhelming load on the SOC. In looking for a solution, they evaluated two different solutions and eventually selected Avanan to secure their enterprise email with Avanan Email Protection and Avanan IRaaS to achieve their objectives quickly.
The Solution
The company implemented Avanan's Email Protection, which resulted in a 99.2% reduction in attacks reaching the end-user. In April 2021 alone, Avanan prevented the delivery of over 17,000 malicious emails to end-users. Avanan's patented approach that leverages APIs, rather than a legacy gateway approach, allowed for full implementation in less than 24 hours. Avanan's advanced AI/ML technology delivered a 99.14% accuracy rate. The SOC saw a 71% reduction in the number of end-user email reports requiring analysis. To further reduce the need for 24/7 manual reviews, the company implemented Avanan's Incident Response as a Service (IRaaS). With IRaaS, they received 24/7 coverage to review these reported emails. Smooth Transition to Energy Savings
The building was equipped with four end-of-life Trane water cooled chillers, located in the basement. Johnson Controls installed four York water cooled centrifugal chillers with unit mounted variable speed drives and a total installed cooling capacity of 6,8 MW. Each chiller has a capacity of 1,6 MW (variable to 1.9MW depending upon condenser water temperatures). Johnson Controls needed to design the equipment in such way that it would fit the dimensional constraints of the existing plant area and plant access route but also the specific performance requirements of the client. Morgan Stanley required the chiller plant to match the building load profile, turn down to match the low load requirement when needed and provide an improvement in the Energy Efficiency Ratio across the entire operating range. Other requirements were a reduction in the chiller noise level to improve the working environment in the plant room and a wide operating envelope coupled with intelligent controls to allow possible variation in both flow rate and temperature. The latter was needed to leverage increased capacity from a reduced number of machines during the different installation phases and allow future enhancement to a variable primary flow system.
