DUC has a large base of 110,799 grassroots supporters and 5,289 volunteers who actively participate in its conservation efforts. The organization manages various functions such as finance, human resources, conservation, fundraising, accounts payable, and warehouse operations. DUC uses a Linux platform and products such as Adabas, Natural, NaturalONE, and EntireX to manage its operations and achieve its objectives.
The Challenge
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving wetlands and other natural spaces for waterfowl, wildlife, and people. To achieve its mission, DUC administers fundraising, retail, and advocacy campaigns and manages projects using software built on Adabas & Natural. However, the organization faced the challenge of moving its applications to the Web and integrating them with third-party applications. This was necessary to engage and mobilize stakeholders effectively, maximize awareness and support, and manage projects in support of its conservation mission.
The Solution
To address its challenges, DUC used NaturalONE to quickly move its applications to the Web. With NaturalONE, 85 percent of the HTML code needed was auto-generated with models, and wireframing was used for prototyping new features. This significantly reduced the time and effort required to move the applications to the Web. Additionally, DUC used powerful plug-ins to integrate its core application with Google Maps™ mapping service, Esri® Geographic Information System, content management systems, and other third-party tools. This enabled the core application to do more and improved its functionality. For instance, by integrating its Natural application with a mailing system, DUC was able to reduce bounce-backs by 55 percent, thereby improving its fundraising campaigns.
Operational Impact
  • DUC was able to quickly move its applications to the Web using NaturalONE, which auto-generated 85 percent of the HTML code needed.
  • The use of powerful plug-ins enabled DUC to integrate its core application with various third-party tools, enhancing its functionality and enabling it to do more.
  • The integration of the Natural application with a mailing system significantly improved DUC's fundraising campaigns by reducing bounce-backs.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 85% of the HTML code needed for moving applications to the Web was auto-generated.
  • Bounce-backs were reduced by 55% after integrating the Natural application with a mailing system.
