About The Customer
Riverside Television is an Irish company that was started by Cyril O’Regan in 1989, using funds loaned from his older brother’s Christmas bonus from his work at Waterford Crystal. Cyril, a passionate cameraman, was joined by his two brothers, Nigel and David, in the company. The company, which started with a staff of five and expands to twenty-five for major productions, covers national events such as Bloom and The National Ploughing Championship. Initially, their studio was located in rural county Waterford, but they had to rethink their business approach due to the new industry requirement for on-site production facilities.
The Challenge
Riverside Television, a company started by Cyril O’Regan in 1989, faced a significant challenge. The industry was shifting towards a requirement for on-site production facilities, which meant that their studio, located in rural county Waterford, was no longer viable. The challenge was to develop a post-production facility that could be mobile and set up wherever and whenever it was needed. This was a significant shift from their traditional approach of having a fixed base within four walls. The company needed to rethink their business model and find a solution that would allow them to adapt to the changing industry requirements and continue to provide high-quality post-production services.
The Solution
Riverside Television came up with an innovative solution to their challenge. They decided to think 'inside the box' and develop a mobile post-production facility. They partnered with Tyrell, who supplied them with a single Avid Nexis unit in an anti-shock suspension flight case. This mobile facility could be used to edit film dailies and also included a viewing room facility. The decision to purchase a bundle of Avid facilities from Tyrell at a competitive price allowed Riverside Television to pull everything together in a mobile post house. Tyrell's involvement was instrumental in helping Riverside Television figure out what they needed and how to get the job done as efficiently as possible.
Operational Impact
  • The operational results of Riverside Television's shift to a mobile post-production facility have been significant. The company has been able to adapt to the changing industry requirements and continue to provide high-quality post-production services. The mobile facility allows them to edit film dailies and includes a viewing room facility, enabling them to offer a comprehensive range of services on-site. This has given them the flexibility to pop up anywhere and provide their services where the work is actually happening. The partnership with Tyrell has also been beneficial, helping them figure out what they needed and how to get the job done as efficiently as possible.
