About The Customer
Tootor's customers are primarily new graduates, practicing dentists, and dental office assistants who find it challenging to obtain consistent access to practical dental education courses. These individuals are looking for a convenient and accessible way to continue their education and improve their skills. They value the hands-on approach that Tootor offers, as it allows them to see and understand the procedures in practice. The use of augmented reality technology further enhances their learning experience, as it provides a dual view of the procedure from the clinician's perspective and an external camera.
The Challenge
The dental field has been facing a significant challenge in providing consistent access to practical dental education courses. Traditional in-person courses are increasingly being replaced by remote training platforms due to their convenience and accessibility. However, the need for a new way of delivering skills and competencies and managing learning and training is evident. The challenge lies in bridging the educational gaps of new graduates and the continuing education needs of more seasoned professionals, dentists, and dental office assistants. The goal is to improve service by providing various levels of training, real-time training in augmented reality, and internationalizing the service.
The Solution
Tootor, a dental remote mentoring streaming platform, has been developed to address these challenges. This innovative project eliminates the traditional 'lecturer in the chair' model and instead relies on a remote video training model. The platform offers video content that explains and shows in practice how interventions are approached, recorded directly on the patient or manikin. To enhance the learning experience, all videos are made in close-up and supported by a voice-over that explains the operations step by step. In collaboration with Acty, an augmented reality distance training software, Tootor AR has been launched. This remote mentoring app uses augmented reality technology to make the clinician more active and participatory. The clinician wears smart glasses and is assisted live and remotely by the mentor, who follows the surgery step by step.
