About The Customer
Peach Aviation is a Low Cost Carrier (LCC) based in Japan. Founded in 2011, the company has its headquarters in Osaka. Peach started its operations in Kansai International Airport on 1 March 2011 with two regular domestic flights to Sapporo and Fukuoka. It expanded overseas to start a flight route to Seoul in May of the same year. Its vision to be the 'bridge between Japan and Asia' has seen a subsequent expansion of routes to countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand. Unlike major airlines that have a sales network with travel agencies, more than 90% of Peach's revenue comes from sales of air tickets on the internet. As a result, they stress the importance of fast display for websites to avoid unnecessary strain on the users.
The Challenge
Peach Aviation, a Low Cost Carrier (LCC) based in Japan, heavily relies on its website as a primary source of revenue, with more than 90% of bookings made online. As such, maintaining website performance and strengthening security are critical. The company faced challenges in managing high traffic during promotional periods and ensuring fast website display to avoid user strain. With the expansion of services to other Asian countries, the risks of unauthorized access and DDoS attacks increased, necessitating stronger security measures. Peach also needed to ensure a high level of service for its predominantly young, smartphone-using customer base, who would quickly abandon a slow or unresponsive website.
The Solution
To address these challenges, Peach chose CDNetworks' Content Delivery Network (CDN) cloud service. CDNetworks not only provides cache distribution, but also speeds up content that does not have cache (dynamic content) and improves performance. It uses a cloud-based Web Application Firewall (WAF) to build a secure system environment for all-around protection. Peach has been using CDNetworks' service since it started operations in 2011. They initially introduced 'Dynamic Wave Acceleration' to speed up contents and applications that do not have dynamic content. As they expanded routes in Asia, they also introduced 'Cloud DNS' and 'Cloud Load Balancer' to optimize web performance. Subsequently, they introduced 'Cloud Security DDoS' to protect against DDoS attacks and 'Cloud Security Bot Manager' to protect against bot attacks.
Operational Impact
  • Peach was able to cut down configuration works and cost of operations due to one-stop installation.
  • The company increased efficiency of operations due to centralizing of enquiries.
  • Peach was able to fulfill the expansion of service scope alongside business growth.
