About The Customer
Parker Hannifin Corporation is the world’s leading diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies. Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the company provides precision-engineered solutions for a wide variety of commercial, mobile, industrial, and aerospace markets. The Parflex division, part of Parker Hannifin’s Fluid Connectors Group, offers an extensive selection of hose, tubing, fittings, and accessory products for specific fluid-handling applications. The company had committed itself to a corporate-wide Win Strategy – a comprehensive continuous-improvement program based on a three-tiered foundation: premier customer service, strong financial performance, and profitable growth.
The Challenge
Parker Hannifin Corporation, a leading diversified manufacturer of motion and control technologies, was facing a challenge in deriving focused, customized reports from data stored on the corporate mainframe. The company had committed itself to a corporate-wide Win Strategy – a comprehensive continuous-improvement program based on a three-tiered foundation: premier customer service, strong financial performance, and profitable growth. However, measuring the results in a quantitative way wasn’t easy as IT professionals had to supply continually updated information about the many tasks and transactions contained in the Win Strategy metrics. The company needed to create an integrated, enterprise-wide reporting environment that allows users to easily obtain customized reports based on focused subsets of data from the corporate mainframe, and other data sources in the future.
The Solution
Parker Hannifin Corporation adopted WebFOCUS, a reporting software that could connect directly with IMS, VSAM, and other mainframe database structures. The software was also attractive due to its broad applicability and ease of use. Using WebFOCUS, the company created a reporting environment that provides flexible, simplified access to the information required by many different departments and functional groups. It allows managers to analyze and improve metrics to support the goals of the Win Strategy – setting new standards for best practices in their industry. The Parflex division used WebFOCUS to create hundreds of customized reports, which would not have been possible using the old reporting methods. Parflex uses a Lotus Notes front-end as the gateway to a categorized selection of self-service reports.

Improving Production Line Efficiency with Ethernet Micro RTU Controller
Moxa was asked to provide a connectivity solution for one of the world's leading cosmetics companies. This multinational corporation, with retail presence in 130 countries, 23 global braches, and over 66,000 employees, sought to improve the efficiency of their production process by migrating from manual monitoring to an automatic productivity monitoring system. The production line was being monitored by ABB Real-TPI, a factory information system that offers data collection and analysis to improve plant efficiency. Due to software limitations, the customer needed an OPC server and a corresponding I/O solution to collect data from additional sensor devices for the Real-TPI system. The goal is to enable the factory information system to more thoroughly collect data from every corner of the production line. This will improve its ability to measure Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and translate into increased production efficiencies. System Requirements • Instant status updates while still consuming minimal bandwidth to relieve strain on limited factory networks • Interoperable with ABB Real-TPI • Small form factor appropriate for deployment where space is scarce • Remote software management and configuration to simplify operations
