About The Customer
ANTENNE BAYERN is a leading radio station in Germany, with more than three million daily listeners. Since its inception on September 5th, 1988, the station has grown to become the most successful private radio station in Germany, surpassing both private and state-run public broadcasting competitors. The station broadcasts a 24-hour program to 41 antennas across Bavaria from its central studio in Ismaning. Its audience extends beyond Bavaria to neighboring federal states, Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. Additionally, fans from around the world, including Canada and the Fiji Islands, tune in via the Internet. The station employs 200 people across five locations and has a strong market presence.
The Challenge
The IT team at ANTENNE BAYERN faced several challenges, including the need to create a uniform firewall infrastructure, prioritize bandwidth, and manage the complete solution efficiently and affordably. Additionally, they required a scalable solution to accommodate future infrastructure expansion. The existing infrastructure was not homogeneous, leading to inefficiencies in administration, especially at branch offices. The team also needed a high-performance high availability (HA) solution that could meet their stringent requirements. The goal was to migrate to a new, sustainable basis that would make the administration faster and more efficient, while also implementing a truly high-performance HA solution.
The Solution
The IT team at ANTENNE BAYERN decided to implement the Barracuda NG Firewall and Barracuda NG Control Center to address their challenges. The rollout was swift and efficient, with the entire process taking just three months from decision to implementation. The Barracuda NG Firewall provided a highly available firewall solution that met today's technology standards and synchronized existing sessions between HA partners at the company headquarters. The solutions for the six correspondent offices were prepared at the headquarters, eliminating the need for on-site visits. VPN and security settings, along with other configurations, were completed ahead of time, making the rollout process seamless. The Barracuda NG Firewall is an enterprise-grade network firewall that combines comprehensive, next-generation firewall capabilities with optimal efficiency and throughput. Key features include coordinated WAN optimization, centralized management, and cloud-hosted content filtering and reporting. The standardized infrastructure allowed for increased efficiency, and the Barracuda NG Management Concept provided a consistent interface for real-time status overview of the entire environment.
