About The Customer
The customer is a leading multinational investment bank and financial services company. They operate in 50 countries and have a large team of 700 analysts located across the globe. The company's executives needed a single dashboard where they could measure the company’s performance on a comprehensive set of real-time measures and drill down to the lowest levels of granularity instantly. They also wanted to enable quick ad hoc analysis for their analysts. The company's reporting requirements were quite complex, and they needed a single view across all international businesses. It was difficult to use their existing BI environment to model complex financial KPIs and build reports on massive financial records.
The Challenge
A leading multinational investment bank and financial services company operating in 50 countries wanted to establish an executive-level global view of its financial data to support Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) for their C-suite. Their executives needed a single dashboard where they could measure the company’s performance on a comprehensive set of real-time measures and drill down to the lowest levels of granularity instantly. They also wanted to enable quick ad hoc analysis for 700 analysts located across the globe. Their reporting requirements were quite complex, and they needed a single view across all international businesses. It was difficult to use their existing BI environment to model complex financial KPIs and build reports on massive financial records. With no tolerance for latency, it became challenging to meet the high expectations and aggressive timelines from the executive team.
The Solution
The company deployed Kyvos to solve their data and BI challenges. Kyvos’ Smart OLAP™ technology enabled aggregation at a scale that was not possible earlier and allowed them to model complex data. The cubes quickly aggregated 5 years of financial data. A full cube with 600 million records took just 25 minutes, and incremental builds were even faster. As the cubes were pre-aggregated, users could drill down to the lowest level of detail in seconds. Even a full dashboard refresh took less than 5 seconds. Kyvos delivered high performance even for dimensions with complex alternate hierarchies and custom rollups. Quick incremental cube builds helped them manage refreshes as often as needed to support their business. The Kyvos semantic layerTM created a single source of truth, allowing them to keep complex business logic, such as year-over-year (YoY) calculations and currency conversions, in one place. It integrated seamlessly with Excel and MicroStrategy, enabling users to do complex analysis without any coding or the need to write formulas in their BI tools.

Smooth Transition to Energy Savings
The building was equipped with four end-of-life Trane water cooled chillers, located in the basement. Johnson Controls installed four York water cooled centrifugal chillers with unit mounted variable speed drives and a total installed cooling capacity of 6,8 MW. Each chiller has a capacity of 1,6 MW (variable to 1.9MW depending upon condenser water temperatures). Johnson Controls needed to design the equipment in such way that it would fit the dimensional constraints of the existing plant area and plant access route but also the specific performance requirements of the client. Morgan Stanley required the chiller plant to match the building load profile, turn down to match the low load requirement when needed and provide an improvement in the Energy Efficiency Ratio across the entire operating range. Other requirements were a reduction in the chiller noise level to improve the working environment in the plant room and a wide operating envelope coupled with intelligent controls to allow possible variation in both flow rate and temperature. The latter was needed to leverage increased capacity from a reduced number of machines during the different installation phases and allow future enhancement to a variable primary flow system.

Derek Madison, Leader of Business Financial Support at MasterCard, oversees the validation of transactions and cash between two systems, whether they’re MasterCard owned or not.
