About The Customer
Portland Diabetes and Endocrinology Center (PDEC) is a pioneer in the field of diabetes treatment and hormonal disorders. With a history spanning nearly 100 years, PDEC operates two locations serving the local population. They store a vast amount of patient data in the form of medical records, as well as business systems. While their doctors and staff focus on the life-saving work of practicing medicine, they contract with Convergence Networks, a Portland-based Managed Service Provider (MSP), to manage their infrastructure and systems. This long-term relationship ensures that the priorities of PDEC are reflected in the decisions made by their partner, Convergence.
The Challenge
Portland Diabetes and Endocrinology Center (PDEC) had been storing countless medical records of patient data, as well as business systems, across two locations. They were doing regular backups using their on-premises Veeam solution, and sending them to their secondary location for safekeeping. However, a disk corruption at the secondary location resulted in the loss of 1.5 days of data. This incident highlighted the need for a more secure and reliable off-site backup solution that could provide geographic diversity at a low cost.
The Solution
In response to the data loss incident, Convergence Networks started exploring options for an offsite backup solution. They reached out to their Veeam contact, who provided information on the offsite backup solution, its configuration, and the service providers with whom they could work. Among the service providers was iland, now 11:11 Systems, Veeam’s Cloud Service Provider of the Year. After considering several factors, including cost-effectiveness, clear pricing, and ease of onboarding and ongoing management, Convergence chose 11:11 Systems as their cloud partner. The implementation of the 11:11 Cloud Backup for Veeam Cloud Connect was straightforward, although they did encounter a challenge due to their backup solution being configured with a prior version of Veeam software. However, this issue was resolved by modernizing their local settings.
Operational Impact
  • Straightforward implementation of the offsite backup solution.
  • Predictable, low costs for the offsite backup solution.
  • Easy management of the offsite backup solution integrated into the existing Veeam solution.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 6TB of storage backed up into the [11:11] cloud.
