The Challenge
Novavax, a biotechnology company, was faced with the challenge of scaling its web presence to meet global demands. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Novavax was a small biotech company with a minimal digital footprint. However, the pandemic and the organization’s vaccine candidate propelled the company onto the world stage, necessitating a robust and scalable digital presence. The company needed to create a future-proof solution that would not limit the digital team as the company grew. The previous site contained a large amount of legacy content that needed to be migrated efficiently to save time and resources. Additionally, Novavax wanted to launch multiple websites simultaneously, including Novavax.com, NovavaxCovidVaccine.com, NovavaxMedInfo.com, WeDoVaccines.com, and KnowOurVax.com.
The Solution
Novavax partnered with digital consultancy Publicis Sapient to redesign and rebuild Novavax.com on the Drupal CMS. The team began with stakeholder research of key audiences, then mapped the ideal customer journey for each persona. These findings were then incorporated into the design, development, and content strategy. A low-code Atomic Design framework was used for rapid page building and deployment, enabling the team to deploy what used to take months in just days. The team also leveraged translation modules to better serve the site’s global audience, ensuring a frictionless exchange of translated copy between the website and translation vendors. Critical information for launch, specifically the Global Vaccines Authorization and Approval map, was localized for most markets. The use of Drupal, Acquia Cloud Platform, and Acquia Cloud Edge provided the scalability needed to design, build, and deploy sites while also ensuring protection from attacks.
