About The Customer
The American Board of Urology (ABU) is a small non-profit organization founded in 1935. It is one of 24 medical specialty boards in the United States. The organization is responsible for overseeing board certification of urologists and administering exams and criteria for certification. ABU's website had been hosted for years by a local web hosting provider in Charlottesville, VA. The IT department of ABU is managed by a single IT Coordinator, Charlie Hall, who had been on the job for just six months when the need for a web hosting transition arose.
The Challenge
The American Board of Urology (ABU) was given a four-week notice by its incumbent web hosting provider to move its entire website. The transition was complicated due to the use of a complex Oracle database stored on the old web server. The IT Coordinator at ABU, Charlie Hall, was the only IT person and was relatively new to the job. He was also scheduled to be away on vacation during one of the final four weeks. The situation was further complicated by the fact that he was not particularly familiar with the website.
The Solution
In response to the urgent need for a new hosting provider, ABU reached out to 11:11 Systems, a company that had a relationship with VMware. 11:11 Systems responded promptly and began discussing potential solutions to ensure that ABU’s website remained operational. Due to the complexity of ABU's Oracle database, a replication vendor was enlisted to assist with the transfer. Despite the complicated and difficult process, with the help of 11:11 Systems, ABU was able to successfully transition to the new environment with zero downtime.
Operational Impact
  • ABU's website transitioned to the new environment with zero downtime.
  • 11:11 Systems provided comprehensive and responsive support throughout the process.
  • The support team at 11:11 Systems was highly responsive and willing to go the extra mile to assist with the complex process.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Zero downtime during the website transition.
