About The Customer
Neo Telecoms is a leading network infrastructure and IP-transit operator based in Paris, France. The company provides Pan-European and U.S. Internet connectivity and hosting services to over 300 customers. Since its inception in 2003, Neo Telecoms’ network has undergone rapid growth, expanding to multi-10 Gbps connectivity and a 150 Gbps backbone. The company has a small staff of six people and needed a solution that was easy to use and could provide cost-effective visibility into the entire network.
The Challenge
Neo Telecoms, a Paris-based company providing Pan-European and U.S. Internet connectivity and hosting services, was facing challenges in managing its rapidly growing network. The company's in-house developed tools based on open-source code were no longer sufficient as the network expanded to multi-10 Gbps connectivity and a 150 Gbps backbone. Even the commercial tools they had started to fail. The company needed a solution that was easy to use and could provide cost-effective visibility into the entire network.
The Solution
Neo Telecoms deployed the Peakflow SP solution for pervasive, cost-effective visibility and security of peering, backbone, and customer traffic. The solution analyzes IP-flow information generated from key routers in its network, allowing Neo Telecoms’ small staff to gain intelligent visibility across the entire network using only three Paris-based Peakflow SP Collector Platform appliances. In addition to relying on Peakflow SP for peering analysis, Neo Telecoms uses the solution to detect and quickly mitigate distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks impacting its network infrastructure and customers.
Operational Impact
  • Peakflow SP provides intelligent visibility into network traffic, allowing Neo Telecoms to optimize and secure its network infrastructure.
  • The solution enables network operators to see all traffic that enters or leaves the network and to make intelligent, profitable decisions about peering relationships and network design.
  • Peakflow SP is used by both Neo Telecoms’ network engineering and sales staffs daily, making it a versatile and easy-to-use tool.
  • The solution helps in detecting and quickly mitigating distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks impacting the network infrastructure and customers.
Quantitative Benefit
  • With the information provided by Peakflow SP, Neo Telecoms' staff needed less than five minutes to set up the blackhole routes and stop the DDoS attacks.
