The Challenge
Jon Beaupré, a professor at California State University Los Angeles, was facing a challenge in creating an effective and engaging academic setting for his TV Film and Media course. He was looking for an educational tool that would appeal to his students and encourage even the most introverted ones to participate in class discussions. Beaupré recognized that large classroom settings can often be intimidating for students, which can hinder their participation. He was seeking a solution that would not only engage his students but also track their participation.
The Solution
Beaupré found a solution in Trumpia's Text-to-Screen feature, which he believed would be a great way to engage students and encourage them to participate in educational conversations. He used this feature in a creative and practical way by inviting local film, media, and broadcast professionals to his classroom for a live panel discussion. Students were instructed to text the keyword 'TVFILM' followed by their question for the panel members. These questions were then displayed on a large projector screen for everyone to see, and the panel members would answer them aloud. Beaupré was able to track participation by exporting the texted questions and rewarding his students accordingly.
