About The Customer
The Mississippi Department of Revenue is a government agency responsible for the administration of the state's tax laws and the collection of taxes. The Department's IT environment consisted of a mix of Cisco servers and EMC storage arrays. The Department's automated revenue system, Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange, Active Directory, SharePoint, and Core IT Services were all running on this legacy infrastructure. The Department was facing challenges with the cost and complexity of administering and expanding this aging IT environment. Moreover, the Department was unable to meet its data backup and recovery goals using its existing solution.
The Challenge
The Mississippi Department of Revenue was facing challenges with its aging IT environment, which was a mix of Cisco servers and EMC storage arrays. The legacy system had become too expensive and complex to administer and expand. Moreover, the Department was unable to meet its Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) goals using its legacy EMC Avamar backup and recovery solution. The Department was increasingly dissatisfied with EMC’s products and customer support, leading Network Services Manager Patrick Welch to decide that the time was right for a technology refresh.
The Solution
After evaluating a number of options including Nutanix, Welch selected SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure for the Department’s next-generation data center. The Department deployed three 2U SimpliVity OmniStack Integrated Solution with Cisco UCS nodes in its primary data center, replacing nearly two full racks of legacy gear. Two additional SimpliVity nodes were installed in a remote data center for disaster recovery. SimpliVity’s real-time deduplication, compression, and optimization technologies deliver breakthrough performance and data efficiency. The SimpliVity solution also dramatically simplifies operations, enabling the Department to spin up IT services quickly and easily, without storage or backup expertise.
