About The Customer
The Ministry of Employment and Social Security oversees and controls all activities pertaining to social and labor issues throughout Spain. The Ministry relies on an inspection department with more than 1,600 employees to investigate and settle issues pertaining to labor, taxation, and fraud. In addition, more than 1,500 support staff help to prepare and complete case investigations. The Labor and Social Security Oversight Office (LSSOO), a department of the Employment and Social Security Ministry (ESSM) of Spain, is responsible for the control, oversight, and enforcement of all matters pertaining to the nation’s social and labor issues.
The Challenge
The Labor and Social Security Oversight Office (LSSOO), a department of the Employment and Social Security Ministry (ESSM) of Spain, was facing challenges with its inspection system, Integra. The system was designed to support all inspection activities but was falling short in terms of response time for reports. The back-end architecture of Integra was drawing data from the same databases as the online platform that supported the daily activities of inspectors, sub-inspectors, and support personnel. This was compromising application performance and curtailing usability. ESSM officers needed a solution that would improve the functionality and performance of Integra applications.
The Solution
The LSSOO decided to use Information Builders’ business analytics and integration solutions, WebFOCUS and iWay DataMigrator, to solve their problem. They first used iWay DataMigrator to load data from the Integra operational source systems into a data warehouse designed for reporting. This new architecture simplified development, maintenance, and support activities within the IT department while increasing performance for inspectors. Next, the IT team created a series of parameterized reports to fit the needs of different types of users. WebFOCUS allows different types of users to access the data that is relevant to them by simply selecting parameters through drop-down menus. Reports can contain either aggregated or detailed information, serving the needs of inspectors, sub-inspectors, managers, and supervisors at various departments throughout the ministry. The team also used WebFOCUS Flex Enable to enhance the reporting environment with powerful data visualization capabilities.
