About The Customer
John Sankey is a family-run business based in Derbyshire, UK, specializing in hand-making exquisite, characterful furniture. The company is one of the UK's leading sofa and chair manufacturers, offering a vast range of options across four furniture brands. Each item is made to an individual customer order, emphasizing the company's commitment to delivering highly bespoke services. John Sankey's dedication to quality and customization has positioned it as a prominent player in the furniture industry, catering to a diverse clientele seeking unique and personalized furniture pieces.
The Challenge
John Sankey, a leading UK sofa and chair manufacturer, faced the challenge of managing a highly bespoke production process. Each piece of furniture is made to an individual customer order, requiring a system that could handle a vast range of options and configurations. The company needed a solution to streamline its production planning, ensure accurate transport allocation, and maintain traceability from raw materials to finished products. Additionally, as the company moves towards FSC certification for sustainable timber, traceability becomes even more crucial.
The Solution
To address its challenges, John Sankey implemented the WinMan ERP software, which includes a 'Product Configurator' at its core. The Configurator allows users to enter sales orders by selecting specific models and customizing options such as body fabric, cushions, piping, and legs. It ensures that only allowed styles and fabrics are offered for each brand, providing pricing information for each option. The manufacturing process begins with raw timber, which is crafted into frame components in the wood shop. Fabric is cut on a CNC machine, and panels are sewn together. The frames, fabric, and other materials are then delivered to dedicated upholstery cells for each brand, where the furniture is completed. The WinMan ERP also includes a 'Transport Allocation' module, which produces van loading sheets for the despatch area, detailing the sales orders, customer information, and delivery routes. This ensures that orders are dispatched accurately and efficiently.
