About The Customer
The Mercer Area School District is a small, suburban, public school district located in parts of Mercer County, Pennsylvania, USA. The district comprises an elementary school catering to students from kindergarten to 12th grade, as well as a joint middle and high school. The district was in search of a more effective way to communicate during critical situations.
The Challenge
The Mercer Area School District was in need of a more efficient communication method during critical situations. The traditional methods of communication such as emails and phone calls were not effective. Emails often went unnoticed and making individual phone calls to each parent, student, faculty, and staff member was time-consuming and impractical.
The Solution
The Mercer Area School District adopted Trumpia's text messaging software for both schools. At the beginning of the school year, each student is prompted to opt-in to the service when they receive their enrollment packet. While many students sign up for the alerts, adoption among parents is much more prevalent. In the event of a critical situation such as inclement weather or other potential dangers, the school head sends a text to everyone regarding evacuations and general emergency procedures. After the event is over, the Mercer Area School District uses Trumpia to send updates.
