About The Customer
Record Automatische Deuren is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automatic door systems. The company was constrained by a fragmented multivendor IT environment resulting from a corporate acquisition. The manufacturer’s original IT infrastructure included Oracle servers, storage arrays, hypervisor and backup solutions. The newly acquired company’s IT environment included HP servers, Dell™ EqualLogic™ storage, Microsoft® Hyper-V® and Symantec™ backup solutions. The combined IT implementation—with multiple vendors, technology platforms and administrative interfaces—was far too complex and costly.
The Challenge
Record Automatische Deuren, a leading manufacturer of automatic door systems, was facing challenges due to a fragmented multivendor IT environment resulting from a corporate acquisition. The combined IT implementation—with multiple vendors, technology platforms and administrative interfaces—was far too complex and costly. In addition, the company’s legacy data protection solutions were inherently inefficient. It took hours to backup or recover critical applications using the Oracle Secure Backup or Symantec Backup Exec solutions, exposing the manufacturer to excessive data loss and prolonged application downtime.
The Solution
Upon the advice of their trusted IT adviser Rhodix IT Services, Record deployed SimpliVity OmniStack Solution with Lenovo System x3650 to consolidate and unify their IT systems. The SimpliVity solution streamlines operations and improves the performance and availability of their business-critical applications and data. Rhodix implemented the SimpliVity solution and remotely administers and manages the system on Record’s behalf. SimpliVity OmniStack provides a scalable, modular, 2U building block of x86 resources that offers all the functionality of traditional IT infrastructure—including hypervisor, server, storage, and data protection functions—in a single device, with a unified administrative interface.
Operational Impact
  • Streamlined operations; efficient remote administration and global unified management
  • Improved IT agility and reliability
  • Improved RTOs—critical applications and data restored in seconds or minutes compared to hours
  • Improved RPOs—hourly backups instead of nightly backups
  • Lower storage costs—86:1 data efficiency
Quantitative Benefit
  • Improved data protection; backup and restore times reduced from hours to minutes or seconds
  • High performance and availability for critical applications and core IT services
  • Low storage costs; 86:1 data efficiency
  • Lower CAPEX and OPEX; two racks of legacy gear replaced by two 2U OmniStack nodes
