About The Customer
The customer in this case study is a marijuana cultivation and production facility located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The facility is approximately 30,000 square feet in size and employs over 40 people. The business operates in two separate parts of the facility, one for cultivation and the other for production, each requiring different licenses and sets of employees. The business is largely cash-based and has high-value inventory on its premises, making security a top concern. The facility is managed by Harris Tec, a relatively new company helmed by industry veteran Justin Harris.
The Challenge
The legalization of marijuana in Nevada has led to the growth of businesses dealing with the cultivation and production of marijuana. These businesses, such as the one managed by Harris Tec, are largely cash-based and have high-value inventory on their premises, making security a top concern. The facility is divided into two separate parts for cultivation and production, each requiring different licenses, sets of employees, and operating procedures. The challenge was to ensure tight security control over the facility, especially given the high turnover rate in the marijuana business.
The Solution
To address the security concerns, Harris Tec installed a 3xLOGIC infinias system to manage access for eight doors and an inventory cage within the facility. The system was programmed to create a man trap at the main entrance, allowing only one door to be opened at a time. It also has the capability to initiate a lockdown, automatically halting all ingress and egress. Harris Tec, as the Managed Services Provider (MSP) for the end user, performs day-to-day system management, troubleshoots any issues, makes all changes to schedules and groups, and turns access cards on and off. The system allows for the organization of employees into several groups, each with different access privileges in terms of day, time, and location.
Operational Impact
  • The 3xLOGIC infinias system provides a secure access control solution for the facility, ensuring that employees are only able to access areas where they are explicitly approved to go.
  • The system's flexibility allows for the creation of a man trap at the main entrance, enhancing security by ensuring that only one door can be opened at a time.
  • The system's lockdown capability provides an additional layer of security, allowing for the halting of all ingress and egress in the event of a security breach.
  • The system allows for the easy programming of access badges, which is essential given the high turnover rate in the marijuana business.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The system manages access for eight doors and an inventory cage within a 30,000 square foot facility.
  • The system supports the management of over 40 employees, organized into several groups with different access privileges.
