The Challenge
Kingland Systems Corporation, a company specializing in solving customers’ complex compliance and data problems, was facing a challenge in setting up new customer environments. The company relied on the cloud to create copies of customer environments so that it could work on each customer’s data. However, the process was manual and could take up to two weeks. This was affecting the company's responsiveness and ability to quickly onboard new customers. The company was looking for a way to streamline these processes and improve its speed to market.
The Solution
To address the challenge, Kingland Systems implemented the IBM PureApplication System and IBM PureData System for Analytics. The PureData System, designed and optimized specifically to run high-performance data workloads, is used to analyze customer data. It allows the company to run very large, complicated types of queries against the data very quickly, providing a much better platform for data scientists to answer questions about how and why this data exists. After an initial analysis, the data is taken through an augmentation stage, which involves cleansing and enhancing the data for more refined analytics. These augmentation applications run on the PureApplication System. Using Pure Application System and patterns, the company can spin up new instances of these applications extremely quickly.

Smooth Transition to Energy Savings
The building was equipped with four end-of-life Trane water cooled chillers, located in the basement. Johnson Controls installed four York water cooled centrifugal chillers with unit mounted variable speed drives and a total installed cooling capacity of 6,8 MW. Each chiller has a capacity of 1,6 MW (variable to 1.9MW depending upon condenser water temperatures). Johnson Controls needed to design the equipment in such way that it would fit the dimensional constraints of the existing plant area and plant access route but also the specific performance requirements of the client. Morgan Stanley required the chiller plant to match the building load profile, turn down to match the low load requirement when needed and provide an improvement in the Energy Efficiency Ratio across the entire operating range. Other requirements were a reduction in the chiller noise level to improve the working environment in the plant room and a wide operating envelope coupled with intelligent controls to allow possible variation in both flow rate and temperature. The latter was needed to leverage increased capacity from a reduced number of machines during the different installation phases and allow future enhancement to a variable primary flow system.

MasterCard Improves Customer Experience Through Self-Service Data Prep
Derek Madison, Leader of Business Financial Support at MasterCard, oversees the validation of transactions and cash between two systems, whether they’re MasterCard owned or not. He was charged with identifying new ways to increase efficiency and improve MasterCard processes.
