About The Customer
Indianapolis Public Schools, based in Indianapolis, is central Indiana’s largest and most academically diverse school system. Indianapolis Public Schools operates 60 schools, employs over 6,000 administrators, teachers and support staff, and serves over 30,000 students. With a growing population, and with computers and other devices playing an ever-increasing role in the way teachers work and students learn, investments in technology are always increasing.
The Challenge
Indianapolis Public Schools saw that the learning and teaching styles of their students and staff were transitioning from desktop machines to laptops. The IT department knew they needed a plan to protect these portable devices.
The Solution
After comparing several solutions, Indianapolis Public Schools selected Absolute. IT valued the fact that computers could be counted, tracked, and — if missing — wiped clean of data, all remotely from a cloud-based console. Executive Management appreciated that there was a Service Guarantee to pay for a replacement for every stolen laptop not recovered by the Investigations team. Since 2007, more than 167 laptops have been recovered, 75% of all laptops stolen. These recovered laptops have saved Indianapolis more than $167,000 in asset costs. Absolute helps with asset management, in particular for laptop ‘summer vacation take-backs’,” comments Waddell. “We were able to take instant inventory and send a message to any laptop that hadn’t yet been turned in.
Operational Impact
  • Real-time information is provided for location and status of laptop computers.
  • Protects investment in laptops. Since 2007, Absolute has located or paid out for over 167 laptops for Indianapolis Public Schools.
  • Instant inventory and device tracking from one console.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Saved more than $167,000 in asset costs.
  • 75% of all stolen laptops recovered.
