About The Customer
Gusta Foods is a fast-growing company founded in 2015. It is an award-winning developer, manufacturer, and distributor of vegan food products, such as cheeses, sausages, and patés. The company has 3,000 points of sale in supermarket chains across Canada. Based in Montreal, Gusta Foods has been growing at a rate of 50% to 100% per year. With 30 employees, the company achieved sales of $5 million in 2020 and has set ambitious sales goals of $7 million for 2022 and $12 million for 2023. This growth is expected to come from new markets targeted in the USA, Poland, and France.
The Challenge
Gusta Foods, a fast-growing vegan food products company, faced several challenges as it aimed to transform digitally and avoid the pitfalls that many start-ups encounter. The company's strategic plan outlined a vision for a paperless, employee-friendly, Industry 4.0-ready, and agile business. However, realizing this vision required overcoming several constraints, including ensuring clean data entry, implementing an ERP system while moving to a new plant, and complying with industry food safety standards. The company needed an ERP system that could support its growth and help it achieve its strategic goals.
The Solution
To launch its digital transformation, Gusta Foods implemented an ERP system. The company worked with key players from its team and a consultant to map out and structure their processes, identifying must-have requirements for the ERP system. They created a vendor brief that outlined their requirements, including a cloud-based system, flexible report generation & KPIs, ease of use, expertise in the agri-food sector, experience in Industry 4.0, paperless workflows, and affordable cost of implementation. After receiving ten bids and conducting extensive demos with four vendors, Gusta Foods selected Fidelio, a cloud ERP software developed and implemented by Commsoft Technologies. Fidelio had in-depth expertise in food and beverage manufacturing and experience with paperless and Industry 4.0 systems.
Operational Impact
  • Gusta Foods saved time and money in numerous business processes.
  • The centralized way an ERP system works enabled the company to reduce manual data entry to a minimum.
  • Fidelio’s centralized organization of information and activities made planning an almost semi-automatic process.
  • Enabled by precise planning, Gusta Foods was able to keep its inventory as low as possible, which freed up cash flow for allocation to other business functions.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Gusta Foods has been growing at a rate of 50% to 100% per year.
  • With 30 employees, the company achieved sales of $5 million in 2020 and has set ambitious sales goals of $7 million for 2022 and $12 million for 2023.
