About The Customer
The Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting self-sufficiency among the low-income population of Pike County and addressing the major causes of poverty. Established in 1964, CAC offers a range of services including home weatherization assistance, consumer energy education, emergency home repair, and handicapped accessibility modification programs. It operates several family health centers, serving the needs of individuals in southern Ohio. The streamlined IT administration team at CAC consists of just 2 employees managing more than 350 computers and endpoints, 30 servers, and a variety of network equipment across 14 locations. CAC's technology infrastructure houses sensitive data, including county financial information, social security numbers, finances, and home addresses.
The Challenge
The malware threats of today are designed to hack into any size infrastructure and cause chaos, stealing personal information, financial and corporate records, or planting infections to cause IT destruction. Traditional antivirus solutions focus on detection, not prevention, using default allow technology that only stops recognized, blacklisted files. This leaves a gap for unknown files that do not appear on the blacklist, allowing them to enter an IT environment and potentially infect a system. For small businesses and non-profit organizations, IT needs are the same as large corporations, but they often lack large IT staffs and budgets, making them more susceptible to attacks. The Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) needed to ensure its IT environment was safe, as it houses sensitive data such as county financial information, social security numbers, finances, and home addresses.
The Solution
As CAC's contract with Symantec was nearing expiration, the IT department evaluated competitive solutions for antivirus and anti-spam to find the best cost versus performance. They tested products from major vendors including McAfee, Symantec, and Comodo. Comodo Endpoint Security Management (ESM) software suite was chosen for its superior performance in detecting viruses and malware that other products missed. Comodo ESM offers five layers of defense: antivirus, firewall, host intrusion prevention, automatic containment, and file reputation. Its real-time automatic containment technology eliminates malware outbreaks by running untrusted processes in an isolated environment. The Comodo Endpoint Security Manager enables IT administrators to perform functions directly from the console, eliminating the need to physically connect to each machine, thus not interrupting the user's workflow. The remote access feature was also highly valued by CAC.

In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
