About The Customer
Heartland Financial USA, Inc., founded in 1981, is a multibank holding company offering banking solutions for business and personal clients. It is one of the top 100 bank holding companies nationwide, delivering high-quality financial products and services to clients in the Midwestern, Southwestern, and Western U.S. Heartland is growing quickly through the acquisition of small regional banks. After acquiring numerous banking entities, the company found itself with an assortment of disparate information systems, resulting in many different types of customer, regulatory, and core banking data.
The Challenge
Heartland Financial, a multibank holding company, was growing rapidly through the acquisition of small regional banks. This led to a jumble of disparate information systems and data repositories, making it difficult to create consistent reports. Compliance and audit teams frequently experienced continuity issues, and reports from different departments using the same data sometimes had conflicting totals. Business users were sidetracked verifying the accuracy of the data rather than using it to help customers resolve problems. Regulatory challenges were putting a much greater emphasis on day-to-day analytics and reporting. The board of directors needed consistent monthly and quarterly basis for sound operational decision-making.
The Solution
Heartland Financial decided to use WebFOCUS and InfoAssist to directly address data sources where they reside, resolving its urgent information needs without having to commit to a long and costly data warehouse initiative. WebFOCUS provides approximately 80 percent of what Heartland sought from a data warehouse – at a fraction of the time and cost. Heartland is now leveraging WebFOCUS to improve decision-making throughout the multi-bank network. The BI software delivers vital, timely, and actionable insight that can positively impact every process and activity across the entire financial services spectrum. Heartland is using Information Builders’ InfoAssist™, an end-user self-service BI tool, which puts information at departments’ fingertips.
Operational Impact
  • Improved decision-making with vital, timely, and actionable insight across the entire financial services spectrum.
  • Reduced labor costs.
  • Improved data accuracy.
  • Reduced the need for IT support via self-service analytics.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reports that previously took three weeks to deliver using the Microsoft tools can be created in a matter of minutes with InfoAssist.
