About The Customer
The customer is a nationally top-ranked healthcare organization that is internationally recognized in several fields of research. The organization has an extensive medical staff of over 250 healthcare providers. The hospital has a vast network that includes a variety of endpoints and servers, including MDM Android and iPhones. The organization was facing a significant challenge with malware attacks that were threatening the security of the entire network. The hospital's IT security team was seeking a solution that would provide greater visibility into the malware and attack vectors, and that could integrate with their existing infrastructure.
The Challenge
The healthcare organization, a nationally top-ranked hospital with an extensive medical staff of over 250 healthcare providers, was facing a significant challenge with malware attacks. These attacks had become a substantial problem, with several outbreaks across the entire network, including MDM Android and iPhones, beyond just endpoints and servers. The existing solution was not able to secure the entire network. The hospital's IT security team realized they needed greater visibility into the malware and the attack vectors to prevent a breach that could potentially compromise the hospital and even cost lives. They decided to evaluate Cyphort’s Adaptive Detection Fabric (ADF) specifically to detect and contain advanced threats that bypassed their first line of defense.
The Solution
The hospital's IT security team required a solution that would provide visibility and rapid detection across their entire network, including Mac OSX machines. They needed rapid detection of advanced malware and zero-day attacks, with immediate notification of threats. They also required visibility into the lateral spread of incidents and infections. The team needed to identify the risk level they faced, given the vast amount of threat activities and the extended network of endpoints. Cyphort’s SmartCore™ software, with its advanced threat detection and mitigation features, provided the necessary understanding of the threats and their severity. The solution also needed to integrate rapidly with the existing infrastructure, including firewalls, secure Web gateways, and intrusion prevention systems. Cyphort’s ADF solution fit into their existing security infrastructure, providing controls to better meet HIPAA and PCI compliance.
Operational Impact
  • By deploying Cyphort’s ADF solution, the hospital IT security team gained broader and more granular visibility into the threats and infections attacking the network. The hospital is now able to defend a vast network of different endpoints and servers with fast, prioritized mitigation. Despite the large number of endpoint devices, ADF provides the team with visibility to better meet HIPAA and PCI compliance. The hospital was able to seamlessly integrate ADF with Palo Alto Networks (PAN) Next Generation Firewalls for threat containment and to block detected command and control activity. The hospital also tied ADF into their SIEM which accessed SmartCore’s threat intelligence feeds and syslog to give the hospital clarity into what was taking place on their network.
