About The Customer
Hayden Concrete is a manufacturer of precast concrete products based in Rillito, Arizona. The company was founded in 1957 by Julian Hayden, a renowned archeologist and geologist. Hayden Concrete Products is the largest supplier of its kind in Southern Arizona. It sells to local general contractors and uses special trucks to deliver its products, which can weigh many tons. More than 800 individual components are stored on a 10.5-acre yard adjacent to the manufacturing facility. From these, products are assembled to order. For example, a manhole that must be 20 feet deep might require five different items, all of which are kept in stock for prompt assembly and delivery. The company has 53 employees.
The Challenge
Hayden Concrete, a manufacturer of precast concrete products, was facing challenges with its existing accounting system, Sage BusinessWorks Accounting. The company had grown significantly over the years, and the original software could no longer support the company’s growth. For instance, the company had a huge line of manufactured parts that required manual inventory counts, taking over 30 man-days. The company was also spending a significant amount of time on payroll processing. The company needed a more robust and efficient system to handle its growing needs.
The Solution
Hayden Concrete decided to upgrade to Sage 100 ERP, a more robust and comprehensive accounting and manufacturing system. The company chose the Sage BusinessWorks Accounting Special Edition of Sage 100 ERP, which was designed specifically for previous Sage BusinessWorks Accounting customers. The implementation was both easy and affordable. The new system was set up to handle multiple earning and deduction codes, including certified payroll and workers’ compensation categories. The new system also improved inventory management, allowing the company to manage its inventory in a more strategic manner. The system also helped the company create histories of its various products, determining which were the best movers.
Operational Impact
  • The transition to the new system went smoothly, much better than the company had expected.
  • The new system is lightning fast, even for large quantities of data.
  • The company now conducts a spot check once a month to verify that its counts are accurate, instead of spending 30 man-days on a year-end inventory check.
  • The new system allows the company to manage its inventory in a more strategic manner.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Savings of at least 20 man-days on annual inventory check
  • Saved 10 percent of time previously spent on payroll
