About The Customer
Grupo Financiero Multiva is a financial group based in Mexico, comprising Banco Multiva, Casa de Bolsa, and Fondos de Inversión. The group provides a variety of personal and commercial financial products and services through its 25 branches across Mexico. As a financial institution, Multiva is responsible for safeguarding its customers' assets, including transactions, account information, and personal identification information. The bank faced growing security concerns regarding the protection of these assets, particularly in the face of increasing threats such as Zero-Day attacks, ransomware, APT, and email-borne attacks.
The Challenge
Grupo Financiero Multiva, a Mexican financial services provider, faced significant security challenges in protecting its network and clients' financial assets from unknown malware, Zero-Day attacks, and Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. The bank was able to handle known malware using traditional tools, but it was defenseless against Zero-Day attacks as legacy solutions were no longer sufficient for detection and prevention. The frequency of DDoS attacks was also on the rise. The bank needed a central, manageable security solution that could provide comprehensive protection against these threats, including ransomware, APT, and email-borne attacks.
The Solution
In search of the best solution, Multiva tested Micro Solutions, FireEye, and Check Point SandBlast. While the first two could detect threats, they were not as effective in stopping them as SandBlast. They also struggled with the complex task of remediating encrypted files in cases of ransomware. Multiva chose Check Point Next Generation appliances for threat prevention due to their superior performance, uptime, and scalability. The solution offered comprehensive protections including Firewall IPS, Application Control, Anti-Bot, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam & Email Security, URL Filtering, and the award-winning sandboxing technology in Check Point SandBlast. To fortify its perimeter defense against the increasing DDoS attacks, Multiva integrated the Check Point DDoS Protector Appliance into its security architecture. This appliance responds to DDoS attacks quickly using multi-layer protection against volumetric, specific server, and application attacks.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Check Point SandBlast and DDoS Protector Appliance has significantly improved Multiva's security posture. The Threat Emulation capability, a sophisticated sandboxing technology, prevents infections from undiscovered Zero-Day threats and targeted attacks. Threat Extraction allows users to quickly get a clean, safe document while the file is in emulation, promoting efficiency without compromising security standards. The Check Point Next Generation solution offered a comprehensive yet simpler security solution that required fewer appliances than competitors’ solutions. The single-pane-of-glass management and superb visibility into threats simplified the workload of the Information Security team with threat alerts and granular reports, positively impacting the bank’s day-to-day operational efficiency.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Blocked DDoS attacks, advanced threats, and ransomware, ensuring the security of clients' financial assets.
  • Reduced time and resources spent on remediation, leading to cost savings.
  • Enabled business operation with no disruption, ensuring continuity and reliability of services.
