About The Customer
Georgiou is a national building construction, engineering, and property development company headquartered in Perth, Australia, with offices in Brisbane, Mackay, and Melbourne. The company specializes in structural concrete and earthworks, building roads and bridges, water infrastructure, marine and port infrastructure, camp and village accommodation, and land development. With a workforce of approximately 550 computer or smart device users and a few hundred blue-collar workers, Georgiou operates across various resource and construction sites nationwide. The company's IT strategy emphasizes mobile information capture to support its staff, who are often not based in traditional office settings. Georgiou is committed to Lean methodology and aims to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes through technology.
The Challenge
Georgiou, a national building construction and engineering company, faced significant challenges with paperwork management. With around 550 computer or smart device users and a few hundred blue-collar workers, the company maintained approximately 180 different forms for various purposes, including project management, building and workplace health and safety compliance, and human resources. Most forms were still being completed as paper documents, which required remote staff to print, fill out, and return them to the office for manual entry into the appropriate system. This process was inefficient and cumbersome, especially for staff working in challenging environments like construction sites. The company needed a solution to streamline and automate forms capture and workflows, particularly for staff who were frequently out in the field.
The Solution
To address the challenges of paperwork management, Georgiou implemented OneBlink's Enterprise Mobility Platform with development and deployment services provided by OneBlink partner, ACRESTA. The platform enabled the company to mobilize its forms on SharePoint, allowing staff to complete any forms electronically using their tablets and smartphones, even while offline. This solution was designed to streamline the processing of almost 200 different forms, removing much of the manual intervention required previously. The initial focus was on operational and safety forms frequently required by field staff, but the scope has since expanded to include other requirements such as HR. The platform's intuitive mobile app made it easy for non-IT literate staff to use, and the training provided by ACRESTA equipped Georgiou's IT team to take on responsibility for creating subsequent forms.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of the OneBlink Enterprise Mobility Platform significantly increased the speed and throughput of information, allowing Georgiou management to better monitor project and divisional expenses, cash flow, and profit.
  • Field staff benefited from the increased efficiency, as they could complete and submit forms from the field, reducing the time spent on paperwork and allowing them to focus on their core tasks.
  • The solution improved staff morale by simplifying the paperwork process and reducing manual intervention.
  • Georgiou began exploring ways to extend value to clients by providing real-time dashboard views of key reports, such as Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • The platform allowed Georgiou to gather data from anywhere, transform it into workflows and actions, and integrate it with other systems for better information management.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The project was up and running within six weeks, with the initial focus on operational and safety forms.
  • The pilot was delivered by ACRESTA within a few days, demonstrating the platform's ease of use and minimal impact on internal resources.
