About The Customer
The customer is a leading media provider for members of the financial services community. The company offers their clients and more than 2.5 million subscribers publications and online information services, industry-standard data applications, and in-depth seminars and conferences they need to excel in their markets. The company prides itself on the ability to leverage a small core IT team of 4 individuals that are more focused on the business and supporting key initiatives, rather than requiring a large IT squad that has to worry about “keeping the lights on” in their infrastructure.
The Challenge
The financial media company was sharing a colocation datacenter with a sister company. However, when the sister company was purchased, the colocation datacenter had an expiration date. The company’s small IT staff had already devoted too much time and resources to traveling to the colocation facility for changes and wasted additional time managing the assets. They had only six weeks to make the move without impairing their public-facing sites and applications. Procurement and building another colocation datacenter was out of the question, so they turned to the cloud. However, many cloud providers resisted their timeline.
The Solution
The company turned to Bluelock for a managed cloud hosting solution. Bluelock was the only provider able to meet the company's tight implementation timelines. Through Bluelock’s managed cloud hosting solution, the company was able to migrate within a tight timeframe and eradicate the need to travel to a datacenter and deal with procurement issues entirely. The pay-as-you-go pricing and simplicity of management were also huge factors in their decision to go cloud. The company also leveraged Bluelock's Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service solution, which includes the necessary replication software license, high-performance infrastructure, a proven, prescriptive onboarding process, and ongoing support.
Operational Impact
  • The company was able to focus on helping drive business success rather than putting energy into maintaining their internal systems.
  • The IT staff shifted focus to the implementation of new technical tools and strategies, rather than supporting the infrastructure.
  • The company now has time and resources to manage updates, rather than waiting for required system and software upgrades.
  • The organization was able to quickly scale at a moment’s notice.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The company was able to recover their production workloads in hours, not days, with an RPO of minutes or less.
  • The company can recover their workload in as little as 15 minutes with an RPO of minutes or less.
