Fairview Baptist Church is a religious institution located in Greer, South Carolina. The church had been operating out of a 40-year-old facility that was no longer sufficient to accommodate the needs of its growing congregation. The church embarked on a project to build a new, modern facility that would better serve its members. The new $12 million campus spans 149,000 square feet and includes a worship center that can seat up to 1,500 people. The worship center is equipped with the latest audio and video technology, allowing for a variety of musical instruments to be incorporated into services and projected onto screens at the front and back of the room. The campus also includes an administration wing, a library, a chapel, a music suite, conference areas, and a 14,200 square foot fellowship hall with an adjoining kitchen. The church prioritized durability, ease of use, safety, and security in the design of the new facility, and sought door hardware that would complement the design of the new building.

The Challenge

Fairview Baptist Church in Greer, South Carolina, had been conducting services in an outdated 40-year-old facility that was neither large enough nor modern enough to meet the needs of the church’s growing congregation. Years of planning finally culminated in a $12 million, 149,000 sq ft campus, which features a worship center seating up to 1,500. With the latest audio/video technology built into the center, services can incorporate organ, piano, orchestra, and praise team instruments—and all of it can be projected onto screens at the front and back. An administration wing flanks the north side of the center; a library, chapel, music suite, and conference areas are to the south. The basement of the worship center houses a 14,200 sq ft fellowship hall with an adjoining kitchen. Durability, ease of use, safety, and security of openings throughout the extensive campus were all high priorities. All door hardware also needed to complement its surrounding design elements.

The Solution

DORMA, a market leader in innovative access solutions, was chosen to provide the door hardware for the new Fairview Baptist Church campus. DORMA's architectural hardware products were installed in doorways throughout the church, providing access to the worship center, offices, and gathering areas such as the library and fellowship hall. The DORMA 8600 Series Door Closers, which represent the latest in door control technology, were among the products used. These door closers meet ADA barrier-free accessibility requirements and feature full range spring power adjustment and backcheck positioning valve. The church also installed DORMA 9000 Series Exit Devices, which offer superior durability and a smooth, reduced projection touchbar assembly that minimizes catch hazards. Additionally, the church used DORMA CL700 Series Locks, which have a high-performance cylindrical chassis suitable for all applications where Grade 2 products are required. For added security, the church implemented the DORMA SKC (Serialized Key Control) System.
