About The Customer
Janome America is the North American subsidiary of global sewing giant Janome Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan — one of the largest sewing machine manufacturers in the world. The company sells sewing machines, parts, and accessories to hundreds of brick-and-mortar and online retailers. Other divisions of the global company include Janome Canada, Janome Australia, and more than a half-dozen locations in Asia and Europe. The consolidated sales for the global company top more than $400M annually.
The Challenge
In 2009, three separate Janome subsidiaries — Janome America, Jamac and Elna — consolidated under the Janome America banner. This consolidation presented a challenge in terms of managing the operations of the three entities efficiently and cost-effectively. The company needed a solution that would streamline processes, minimize hardware needs and associated consolidation costs, and manage the new entity without increasing IT staff. Additionally, many of Janome America's trading partners required electronic data interchange (EDI) compliance as part of their customer contract, making it a crucial component of their business agreement.
The Solution
Janome America first deployed the Aptean Apprise ERP solution back in 1995. The solution provided the enterprise-wide tools and technology the company needed to conduct business efficiently and cost-effectively. The success of the implementation led to the adoption of the solution by Janome Canada and Janome Australia. The company now runs its three US subsidiaries on a single database, creating efficiencies and streamlining processes. The Aptean Apprise ERP solution also includes an integrated EDI component, which allowed Janome America to meet the EDI compliance requirements of its trading partners. The company outsourced their EDI support and services to Apprise, eliminating the need for in-house EDI resources and saving the company money.

Improving Vending Machine Profitability with the Internet of Things (IoT)
The vending industry is undergoing a sea change, taking advantage of new technologies to go beyond just delivering snacks to creating a new retail location. Intelligent vending machines can be found in many public locations as well as company facilities, selling different types of goods and services, including even computer accessories, gold bars, tickets, and office supplies. With increasing sophistication, they may also provide time- and location-based data pertaining to sales, inventory, and customer preferences. But at the end of the day, vending machine operators know greater profitability is driven by higher sales and lower operating costs.
