About The Customer
KUBRA is an industry-leading provider of cloud-based customer experience management solutions for utility, insurance, government, and other entities across North America. Their mission, encapsulated in the tagline 'Experience Better', is reflected in all the products and services they offer. Their extensive portfolio of solutions includes billing and payments, artificial intelligence, and utility mapping. One of their key products, the Storm Center, is a power outage map solution that allows users to visualize the impacts of severe weather on their local utility or telecom provider. It provides KUBRA clients and their customers the opportunity to prepare for and monitor outages in their region and provides them with critical restoration updates and timeframes.
The Challenge
KUBRA, a leading provider of cloud-based customer experience management solutions, faced a challenge with their Storm Center power outage map solution. The Storm Center, a mobile-friendly platform, allows users to visualize the impacts of severe weather on their local utility or telecom provider. However, as the popularity of the feature grew, KUBRA needed a weather data provider that could both enhance the outage mapping experience and handle the large volume of clients they were serving, which was over 61 million meters and growing. The provider needed to offer developer-friendly radar layer integration for improved visuals, expanded layer options such as lightning, tropical cyclones, forecast precipitation, storm tracking, and storm cells, and scalability to allow for great fluctuations in traffic/demand due to extreme weather events.
The Solution
KUBRA partnered with AerisWeather to improve the Storm Center's weather visualization. During the onboarding phase, both companies conducted extensive load testing and data inspection. This hands-on approach fostered a bi-directional partnership, strengthening both teams and solutions. The goal was to ensure that they could meet customer demand under even the most extreme weather conditions with minimal performance degradation. AerisWeather's radar layer was successfully integrated into the Storm Center in July 2021, providing KUBRA with the ability to offer improved benefits of the Storm Center to a growing roster of utility and telecommunication clients.
Operational Impact
  • The partnership between KUBRA and AerisWeather has resulted in significant operational benefits. The successful integration of AerisWeather's radar layer into the Storm Center has enabled KUBRA to provide enhanced benefits to a growing roster of utility and telecommunication clients. This has allowed KUBRA to serve millions of users through their innovative outage mapping solutions. The partnership has also instilled confidence in KUBRA's clients and their customers that they will always stay ahead of severe weather conditions, thereby improving customer satisfaction and trust in the company's services.
