About The Customer
St. Benedict Preparatory School is a parochial Catholic school located in Chicago, United States. The school serves hundreds of students, ranging from preschool to 8th grade. As an educational institution, it is committed to providing a safe and productive learning environment for its students. This includes ensuring that students are not exposed to inappropriate or distracting content on the internet while using classroom technology. At the same time, the school recognizes the need for its faculty and staff to have necessary access to web resources to perform their jobs effectively.
The Challenge
St. Benedict Preparatory School faced a challenge in maintaining a safe and productive educational environment. The school needed to prevent students from accessing inappropriate or distracting web content through classroom technology. However, stringent policies could hinder faculty and staff from performing their duties effectively. The existing firewall/router combo solution was unable to filter web addresses on a per-user basis, which was necessary for the school's unique needs. Additionally, the school needed a solution that could protect students and staff even when they were off-premises.
The Solution
To address its challenges, St. Benedict Preparatory School turned to Forcepoint and its Web Security Hybrid solution. This solution offers protection across the web, with the flexibility to set separate policies for students versus faculty and staff. The school implemented a hybrid deployment, leveraging its existing hardware with virtual environments. The solution was also synced with Active Directory, ensuring that users are tied to their own individual access policy, regardless of the endpoint they log into. This approach allowed the school to maintain a safe and productive educational environment without hindering the productivity of its faculty and staff.
Operational Impact
  • The school gained remote monitoring capability, allowing it to detect issues more quickly and respond without needing to physically locate the endpoint device.
  • Endpoints were protected off-premises without the need for a VPN.
  • In the first 30 days, the system blocked 250 malicious sites and 100 adult sites.
  • Two instances of malware were detected and removed from teachers’ devices.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 250 malicious sites blocked in the first 30 days.
  • 100 adult sites blocked in the first 30 days.
  • 2 instances of malware detected and removed.
