About The Customer
Puma Energy is an international company operating in the oil and gas industry, specifically in cargo shipping. The company was dealing with a serious problem related to traffic accidents involving their trucks. The inability to analyze the cause of these accidents due to limited monitoring software functionality led to significant losses. Each accident resulted in approximately $150K in damages due to damaged vehicles and undelivered cargo. More critically, lives were lost due to tank truck explosions and fuel ignition.
The Challenge
Puma Energy was facing a significant issue with an increasing number of traffic accidents involving their trucks. The company was unable to analyze the cause of these accidents due to the limited functionality of their monitoring software. This resulted in substantial losses related to damaged vehicles and undelivered cargo, costing about $150K per accident. Additionally, there were fatalities due to tank truck explosions and fuel ignition.
The Solution
JW Services, a partner of Gurtam, proposed a comprehensive solution that included Wialon API/SDK, GPS devices with the ability to read CAN bus data, RFID tags and readers for driver identification, and the Eco Driving app. The CAN data was used to evaluate driving style, with onboard computers sending information on speed, gear shifting, harsh braking, and acceleration to Wialon. RFID tags and readers were used for driver identification, especially useful when drivers work in shifts or when vehicles are not assigned to a specific driver. The Eco Driving app was used for driver behavior control, and Wialon API/SDK was employed to connect all the components together.
Operational Impact
  • Improved drivers’ behavior
  • Substantial reduction in the number of car accidents involving Puma Energy trucks
  • Decrease in financial losses due to accidents
  • Safe and sound cargo delivery
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduction in financial losses due to accidents
  • Decrease in the number of car accidents
