About The Customer
DW van Rooijen Warehousing B.V. (DVR) is a specialist in the storage of dangerous goods, particularly aerosols, and operates in the Rijnmond region of the Netherlands. Founded in 1984, the company has a warehouse space of 12,500 m2 and moved to a new location with CO2 bunkers in March 2019. DVR is one of the few companies authorized to store large quantities of aerosols and other hazardous substances. The company also handles customs clearance and can draw up the required export documents. DVR's operations are subject to strict supervision due to the nature of the goods they store, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
The Challenge
Since the major fire at the Chemie-Pack company in Moerdijk in 2011, the storage of hazardous substances has been subject to extra strict supervision. DW van Rooijen Warehousing B.V. (later called DVR) specializes in the storage of dangerous goods and is one of the few companies in the Rijnmond region authorized to store large quantities of aerosols. An aerosol is a spray can with a mixture of gases and liquids. The company has 12,500 m2 of storage space. The move to new premises in March 2019 was a great opportunity for DVR to deploy a modern platform to support the storage of hazardous substances. The storage takes place in CO2-extinguished bunkers: in case of fire, the oxygen percentage is reduced to two percent, causing the fire to suffocate. In the event of a fire, therefore, the entire storage facility is not lost, but the loss is almost limited to zero.
The Solution
To manage the storage and logistics of hazardous substances, DVR selected BluJay’s Transportation Management for LSPs, a TMS specifically suitable for logistics service providers with transport and storage issues, and the core of BluJay’s LSP Platform. The implementation process involved detailed workshops to ensure the new system met DVR's requirements, and the contract was signed for the upgrade. The advantages of the upgrade include greater ease of use, improved search options, and the ability for customers to view stock directly via a web portal. DVR opted for a clean implementation to avoid reinstalling custom programs from the old system, re-entering data on the storage and transport of dangerous goods. The new system allows for real-time data availability for inspection, ensuring compliance with strict storage requirements. The use of scanners connected to the BluJay system has eliminated manual input errors and ensured adherence to storage rules.
Operational Impact
  • The upgrade to BluJay’s LSP Platform has significantly improved ease of use, allowing DVR to export information to Excel and eliminating the need for customization.
  • The search options have been greatly improved, enabling customers to view stock directly via a web portal without needing assistance from DVR staff.
  • The clean implementation avoided the complexities of reinstalling custom programs, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.
  • Real-time data availability allows authorities to inspect DVR's compliance with storage regulations at any time, enhancing transparency and accountability.
  • The use of scanners connected to the BluJay system has eliminated manual input errors and ensured adherence to storage rules, improving operational efficiency.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Warehouse space of 12,500 m2.
  • Reduction of oxygen percentage to two percent in CO2-extinguished bunkers to suffocate fires.
  • Real-time data availability for inspection by authorities.
