The Challenge
Doris Dev, a product development agency based in New York and Hong Kong, faced challenges in sharing designs with internal stakeholders and external partners. They needed a CAD and data management platform that would enable easier sharing of designs, allowing marketing and sales to influence the final product earlier. The company aimed to create a dishwasher-safe humidifier, the Canopy, targeted at fashion-conscious consumers focused on skincare and aromatherapy. The humidifier needed to be easy to clean, avoiding the common issue of mold and bacteria growth in traditional humidifiers.
The Solution
To address their challenges, Doris Dev adopted PTC’s Onshape, a cloud-native SaaS platform that combines a robust CAD system with built-in data management and real-time collaboration tools. Onshape enabled the core engineering team to share early product designs with internal stakeholders and incorporate their feedback into new iterations faster. The platform's real-time data management prevented version control issues between the New York and Hong Kong teams. Onshape’s Sharing feature allowed the design team to easily share CAD models with non-CAD users across the organization, incorporating their feedback into earlier design iterations. Additionally, Onshape’s Follow Mode facilitated training sessions for new engineering hires, allowing them to follow a lead presenter in a CAD document in real time.
