The Challenge
Day Pitney, a full-service law firm, faced a significant challenge in securing a vast amount of proprietary and client data. The firm needed to gain full control over activity across its IT infrastructure, with a particular focus on file shares containing sensitive content. The challenge was not only to protect the data but also to demonstrate the reliability of internal controls during regular audits conducted by clients. The firm needed a solution that could provide continuous discovery of sensitive data, better control over user privileges, and visibility into IT risks.
The Solution
Day Pitney chose Netwrix for its accurate data discovery capabilities and agentless audit data collection that does not degrade system performance. Netwrix enabled continuous discovery of sensitive data, identifying the location of all sensitive content, including cardholder data, personal health information, and GDPR data of clients who do business in Europe. The solution also provided better control over user privileges, offering precise information about who has access to what sensitive data and how they got that access. Alerts were set up for whenever a user was added to a highly privileged group, ensuring immediate verification of the change. Netwrix also provided visibility into IT risks, allowing the firm to detect accounts with passwords that never expire, inactive user accounts that are not disabled, and potentially harmful files.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Netwrix resulted in improved security of sensitive data, enforcement of the least-privilege principle, and continuous identification of IT risks. The solution provided Day Pitney with a comprehensive view of their IT infrastructure, enabling them to identify and address potential risks proactively. The firm was able to secure sensitive data more effectively and demonstrate the reliability of their internal controls during client audits. The solution also helped the firm to enforce the least-privilege principle, ensuring that access to sensitive data was strictly controlled and in line with business needs.
