About The Customer
Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) is a public corporation functioning as a Special District, an independent unit of local government serving the needs of a community. Headquartered in Rancho Cucamonga, California, CVWD's mission is to provide high quality, safe and reliable water and wastewater services, while practicing good stewardship of natural and financial resources. The service area of CVWD includes Rancho Cucamonga, and portions of Upland, Ontario and Fontana, and some areas of San Bernardino County. CVWD serves a population of approximately 170,000 customers within a 47 square mile area. With approximately 45,000 water connections and 35,000 sewer connections, CVWD is one of the leading water suppliers in the region, thanks to its innovative water treatment technologies and its leadership in addressing regional and state water issues.
The Challenge
Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) embarked on an expansion project with the aim of integrating web-based and mobile functionality into their control system. They needed an HMI/SCADA solution that would seamlessly integrate with their existing systems (AB Controls, Rockwell, etc.) and operating systems (transitioning from Microsoft Windows 2000 to XP). The organization sought a web-enabled solution that wasn't processor-intensive, a mobile component for employees in remote locations, and comprehensive reporting abilities. They partnered with engineering firm, Black & Veatch, to find a solution that met these requirements.
The Solution
CVWD selected ICONICS' GENESIS32, coupled with WebHMI and ICONICS’ Pocket GENESIS mobile Pocket PC industrial software. ICONICS GENESIS32 is an enterprise HMI/SCADA suite that integrates with AlarmWorX™32 MMX, a distributed enterprise-wide alarm notification system, and ReportWorX™, an enterprise reporting, charting and analysis software. WebHMI provides a browser-based alternative to single PC-based software, enabling web-based functionality for the control system. Pocket GENESIS allows CVWD to monitor and control their system away from the plant environment, providing the needed mobile functionality. The plant is able to utilize ReportWorX to fulfill their reporting requirements to the California Department of Health.
