About The Customer
The Creare Group is one of the UK’s leading digital marketing agencies for small to medium businesses (SMEs). They work to deliver a digital presence that works as hard and affordably as possible for thousands of clients. Creare hosts thousands of websites, offering SEO solutions to many of these clients. As part of their services, they also host client websites and provide e-commerce solutions. They were in the process of revamping their server security when they came across Cloudflare and its Optimized Partner program.
The Challenge
Creare Group, a leading digital marketing agency for small to medium businesses in the UK, was in the process of revamping its server security. They were looking for a solution that could not only improve their security but also boost the SEO rankings of their clients' websites. The company was hit by a DDOS attack during the relaunch of its brand and site at a high-profile event. The attack was so strong that it was able to take down the dedicated server that solely hosted the site. Additionally, Creare wanted to deliver rapid load speeds to its clients in the UK and around the world, and improve the load speed of highly dynamic Magento e-commerce sites.
The Solution
Creare approached Cloudflare about their Optimized Partner program and decided to implement it. Cloudflare first demonstrated its value when Creare was hit by a DDOS attack during the relaunch of its brand and site. By enabling a Cloudflare Business account, Creare was able to prevent the attack. Cloudflare also provided strong Web Application Firewall to prevent Layer 7 attacks against Creare’s servers and prevent spam bots from reaching Creare’s servers. Moreover, Creare utilized Cloudflare’s two UK data centers in London and Manchester to deliver rapid load speeds to its clients in the UK. Cloudflare’s global Anycast network enabled Creare to deliver clients’ e-commerce solutions more quickly to their customers around the world. As an Optimized Partner, Creare was also able to benefit from Railgun, Cloudflare’s dynamic content optimizer.
Operational Impact
  • Creare was able to prevent a DDOS attack that was so strong it had previously been able to take down the dedicated server that solely hosted the site.
  • Cloudflare provided strong Web Application Firewall to prevent Layer 7 attacks against Creare’s servers and prevent spam bots from reaching Creare’s servers.
  • Creare was able to deliver rapid load speeds to its clients in the UK and around the world.
  • Creare was able to dramatically improve the load speed of sites by caching previously uncacheable, highly dynamic Magento e-commerce sites.
Quantitative Benefit
  • One client’s site increased by around 20 rankings on Google, just by installing Cloudflare.
  • Creare was able to achieve a 3x reduction in the amount of bandwidth needed to transmit out of their datacenter on Railgun optimized sites.
