About The Customer
Intermax is a Dutch hosting and cloud computing provider established in 1994. The company specializes in business-critical web applications and serves customers in healthcare, government, media, and e-commerce. With over 20 years of experience, Intermax offers a private cloud and operates four data centers in the Netherlands. The company is known for its high uptime, 24/7 support, and commitment to innovation and scalability. Intermax is certified by LRQA to international standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001, and holds additional certifications for information security and quality. The company focuses on long-term partnerships and provides tailored IT solutions to meet specific customer needs.
The Challenge
Intermax, a Dutch hosting and cloud computing provider, faced challenges in delivering superior performance under various circumstances, especially during peak traffic times. The company experienced downtime due to application and server issues, not network bottlenecks. They needed a solution to better distribute incoming service requests across multiple servers and data centers to avoid overloading web servers and applications. Intermax serves customers with complex e-commerce platforms and media websites that generate heavy traffic with high peaks, necessitating a robust solution to maintain 24/7 uptime and meet continually changing customer needs.
The Solution
Intermax implemented multiple high availability pairs of A10 ADCs to load balance web traffic and terminate thousands of SSL connections per second. The ADCs are scalable, high-performance application networking platforms that can be divided into virtual ADCs to service different customers and applications. The solution offers comprehensive Layer 4-7 functionality, including SSL Offload, DDoS protection, DNSSEC, and Web Application Firewall (WAF). Intermax also uses A10 Networks aFleX Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) Scripting Technology to extend application delivery functionality, such as providing a waiting queue for new visitors. Additionally, Intermax leveraged A10's virtual appliance solutions for demonstrations, proof of concepts, and security testing, accelerating the rollout of new services for faster time to revenue.
Operational Impact
  • Intermax can now easily offer shared load balancing to customers who do not require or want to invest in their own ADCs, generating new business opportunities.
  • A10’s non-licensing policy means no budget surprises and no need to purchase licenses during unforeseen peak loads.
  • The low power consumption of A10 ADCs aligns with Intermax's sustainability goals, making the solution a valuable differentiator.
  • The implementation of A10 ADCs has enhanced service availability and optimized network infrastructure efficiency, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  • Intermax can now anticipate new customer requirements with more flexibility, thanks to the advanced features and scalability of A10's solutions.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Intermax's A10 ADCs can process two to five times more web transactions per unit of computing and memory resources compared to conventional solutions.
  • The implementation of A10 ADCs has reduced power usage, rack space consumption, and cooling requirements, leading to lower operational costs.
